ETHIOPIAN REFUGEES: DESPERATE SITUATION IN SUDAN AND KENYA
The situation of Ethiopian refugees in Kenya and the Sudan has worsened. Under the cover of action against illegals and would be “terrorists” the operation launched by the Kenyan authorities against, primarily Somali refugees, has now widened to include Ethiopians in all parts of Kenya. Hundreds have been forced into hiding. Dozens have been already deported from both Kenya and the Sudan.
The Sudanese anti-refugee operation linked to the obtaining of a legal ID has now extended to include even those with proper IDs in what appears as a harassment and fleecing operation in which the security agents of the regime in Addis Abeba are openly taking part to target political dissidents in their lists. It is sad to note that no real protest is being heard against these illegal acts by Kenya and the Sudan targeting refugees from the Horn (Somalis, Ethiopians, and Eritreans). The deafening silence of the UNHCR is being loudly heard once again.
SOCEPP calls on Ethiopians to raise their voices against the brutal actions being taken against their compatriots. It expects also the UNHCR and human rights organizations to protest against and to call an end to the campaign against refugees being taken by the Sudan and Kenya. The resettlement of refugees away from these danger spots should also be undertaken and accelerated. The campaign against Ethiopian refugees should be exposed and condemned internationally.
Stop the violation of the rights of Ethiopian refugees!
